STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

BUSINESS
DNA Testing Firm 23andMe Files for Bankruptcy

23andMe

23andMe has filed for bankruptcy protection as CEO Anne Wojcicki steps down to pursue a buyout—after repeated rejections from the board. The struggling genetic testing company, known for its at-home DNA kits, aims to sell itself through a court-supervised process while assuring customers their data remains secure.

The company is still reeling from a massive 2023 data breach that exposed nearly 7 million users, sparking a wave of data deletion requests. With revenues plummeting and California’s attorney general urging users to erase their records, 23andMe’s chair, Mark Jensen, says a sale is the best way forward.

Apple Expands DJ Tools with Music Catalog Integration

Marcela Laskoski

Apple is expanding its catalog to let DJs build mixes using tools like Algoriddim’s djay Pro, Serato, and Denon DJ, tapping into its 100 million-song library. The integration will attract both pro DJs and newcomers looking to experiment with top-tier software and hardware.

Alongside the integration, Apple is launching a DJ category featuring editorial playlists and curated pages to help DJs find mixes and tools for inspiration. Since adding DJ Mix sets in 2021, Apple has introduced thousands of new sets to the platform.

Gemini 2.5 topped charts in reasoning and knowledge, earning recognition as Google’s most intelligent AI model. With a score of 1267.70, it narrowly missed the top spot, which went to Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet with a score of 1354.01.

Apple Announces WWDC 2025 Takes Place June 9-13

Apple

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will kick off on June 9 at Apple Park, with an in-person keynote and Platforms State of the Union. The event, running through June 13, will showcase updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS, along with potential hardware reveals and major design changes.

Apple also plans to update the delayed AI-powered Siri features first teased last year, which included screen interaction and app integration. With Siri’s more advanced features likely delayed until iOS 20, WWDC could provide an updated timeline and details on the smart display impacted by the setback.

New Discord Overlay Makes Video Chats Easier In-Game

Discord

Discord has given its Overlay feature a major redesign to make game streaming smoother. The old version would interrupt the action by pulling up the entire Discord client, but now users can add customizable widgets for easy access to messages, sound, and video settings—right on the screen.

In addition to smoother controls, the update introduces a picture-in-picture mode for watching friends’ streams while playing. The revamped Overlay also promises better performance and compatibility with more games, making it a solid upgrade for streamers.
