STORIES MAKING A SPLASH
AUTOMOTIVE
Waymo's Robotaxis Are Racking Up Parking Tickets

Waymo
Waymo’s fleet of 300 driverless cars is cruising through San Francisco, but parking remains a headache. Last year, these autonomous rides earned 589 tickets totaling $65,065 for blocking traffic, ignoring street-cleaning rules, and parking in restricted areas, according to The Washington Post.
To be fair, getting ticketed in San Francisco is almost a guarantee—1.2 million citations were issued citywide last year. Waymo says it’s working on a fix, but until all cars are autonomous, its vehicles will likely keep making the same parking choices human drivers do—and racking up fines.

Apple Considered a Port-Free Design for the iPhone 17 Air

AppleInsider
The upcoming iPhone 17 Air, rumored to launch this fall, is set to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever—about 2 millimeters slimmer than its counterparts. Initially, Apple had considered making it completely port-free by ditching the USB-C port, but the company dropped the idea to avoid issues with EU regulators. Still, Apple may revisit this plan depending on the success of the iPhone 17 Air, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Priced around $900, the iPhone 17 Air will sit between the entry-level iPhone 17 and the higher-end models, featuring a 6.6-inch screen, Dynamic Island, and Camera Control button. While details are still unconfirmed, leaks and rumors about the device are expected to keep coming as the fall release approaches.

'Stranded' NASA Astronauts Are Finally Heading Home

NASA
After over nine months on the International Space Station (ISS), astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were one step closer to returning home Sunday when a replacement crew docked with the outpost. The astronauts shared an emotional embrace in zero gravity after SpaceX’s Crew Dragon arrived at 05:45 GMT.
Wilmore and Williams had been stranded since June when Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft suffered propulsion issues during its maiden crewed mission, leaving them stuck longer than expected. Their stay, well beyond the usual six-month ISS rotation, followed an empty Starliner return to Earth. Williams called it a "wonderful day" as the relief crew arrived.
