Billy McFarland announces Fyre Festival 2

Fyre Festival, the infamous failed event of 2017, is getting a sequel. Founder Billy McFarland announced Fyre Festival 2 will take place on Mexico’s Isla Mujeres from May 30 to June 2. He described it as a “three-day escape” featuring music, world-class accommodations, and adventurous excursions, though no performers have been announced.
The original Fyre Festival, heavily promoted by influencers, ended in chaos. Attendees who paid thousands for a luxury experience were met with poor planning, tented lodging, and the now-iconic limp cheese sandwiches. Many artists, including Blink-182, pulled out before the event. McFarland was later sentenced to six years in prison for fraud but was released in 2022 after serving nearly four.
Despite skepticism, McFarland insists this time will be different. “Many think I’m crazy,” he said, but promises Fyre Festival 2 will “make history” for those willing to take the leap.

Perplexity teases a web browser called Comet

AI search engine Perplexity is developing its own web browser, Comet. The company announced a sign-up list on X but hasn’t shared a launch date or design details. Entering a crowded market dominated by Chrome and AI-driven rivals like Dia, Perplexity may be betting on its growing user base to gain traction.
The company has been rapidly expanding. This month, it launched a “deep research” tool to compete with OpenAI, Google, and xAI. In January, it introduced an AI assistant for Android and an AI search API. Since its 2022 founding, Perplexity has raised over $500 million and now sees 100 million weekly queries as it ramps up monetization.
However, legal battles with publishers persist. News Corp’s Dow Jones and the NY Post have sued Perplexity for alleged content theft. The company insists it respects publisher content despite mounting scrutiny.

Apple commits to $500 billion US investment

Apple is expanding its U.S. investments, announcing plans to hire 20,000 workers and spend over $500 billion in the next four years. This marks an increase of $39 billion and 1,000 additional jobs annually over its previous commitment. A key part of the plan is a new manufacturing facility in Houston to build servers for Apple Intelligence, which relies on Taiwan-produced M-series chips for complex AI processing.
Most of the new jobs will focus on R&D, AI, machine learning, silicon engineering, and software development. Apple is also expanding data centers in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada to support its growing AI infrastructure.
Additionally, Apple will open a Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, partnering with universities like Michigan State to help small and medium-sized businesses implement AI and smart manufacturing, offering free skills training both online and in-person.
