STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

BUSINESS
OpenAI Would Buy Google's Chrome Browser

Growtika

OpenAI executive Nick Turley revealed in Google’s antitrust trial that the company would be interested in buying Chrome if it were available. Turley argued that acquiring the browser would allow OpenAI to create an “AI-first” experience for users, transforming the way people interact with the web. This comes as the Justice Department pushes Google to change its practices after being accused of monopolizing the online search market.

OpenAI is also exploring its own browser, having recently hired former Google developers Ben Goodger and Darin Fisher, who were key to Chrome’s creation. With the government urging Google to divest Chrome, the door may be opening for OpenAI to make a move.

Tesla Profits Drop 71% Amid Anti-Musk Backlash

I'M ZION

Tesla’s Q1 earnings revealed a 71% drop in net income, posting $409 million on $19.3 billion in revenue after delivering 337,000 EVs. The company’s worst quarter in over two years was offset by $595 million in tax credit sales, without which Tesla would have posted a loss.

Despite the financial dip, Tesla's stock rose as investors focused on upcoming plans for an affordable EV in June and Elon Musk’s shift to reduce his role with the Department of Government Efficiency. The company also cautioned that tariffs and political shifts could affect future demand.

xAI's Grok Can Now 'See' the World Around It

Mariia Shalabaieva

xAI has rolled out Grok Vision, a new feature that lets iOS users point their phone at objects, signs, or documents and ask questions about them, similar to Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT. Users can simply ask, “What am I looking at?” and the chatbot will analyze the scene. This feature is currently available on iOS, with no word on Android support yet.

Alongside Grok Vision, xAI introduced multilingual audio and real-time search in voice mode. These features are only available to Android users who subscribe to the $30-per-month SuperGrok plan.

New Hampshire House Passes Bitcoin Reserve Bill

Ewan Kennedy

A bill that would allow New Hampshire to invest a portion of its state funds in digital assets and precious metals has passed a second Senate committee. On April 23, House Bill 302 (HB 302) cleared the committee with a 4-1 vote, advancing to a full Senate vote.

Introduced in January, the legislation already passed the New Hampshire House in a 192–179 vote. If approved by the Senate and signed by the governor, it would permit the state treasury to invest 10% of its general funds in cryptocurrencies with a market cap over $500 billion—currently only met by Bitcoin.

Shaquille O’Neal Reaches Settlement in FTX Lawsuit

Paras Griffin

Shaquille O'Neal has settled with investors claiming losses from the collapse of FTX, according to a filing on April 23 in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The settlement amount remains confidential, with full terms expected once investors request preliminary court approval.

O'Neal, along with other celebrities and athletes, was accused of promoting FTX and contributing to investor losses. The case is part of a larger litigation effort where investors seek up to $21 billion in damages from FTX insiders and promoters. Other celebrities involved include Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, Kevin O’Leary, and Naomi Osaka.
