STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

AI
Perplexity Browser Will Track Users for Targeted Ads

Perplexity

Perplexity isn’t just competing with Google—it wants to become it. CEO Aravind Srinivas shared on the TBPN podcast that the company is building its own browser, Comet, to track users’ online activity beyond its app, aiming to create better profiles for more personalized ads. By understanding what users are buying and where they’re going, Perplexity believes it can offer more relevant ads than work-related queries alone.

Despite some setbacks, the Comet browser is set for a May launch. Srinivas is confident users will embrace the tracking if it leads to a more tailored, engaging experience through ads and a personalized discover feed.

BUSINESS
Intel to Require Four-Day Office Work Week

David Paul Morris

Intel is shifting its work policy, requiring employees to be in the office four days a week starting September 1. CEO Lip-Bu Tan announced the change during the company’s Q1 2025 earnings call, citing uneven adherence to the current hybrid model, which previously allowed two remote days.

Tan emphasized that bringing teams together in person promotes collaboration, faster decision-making, and stronger connections. Local leadership will provide site-specific details and gather feedback from staff to ensure the best on-site experience.

AUTOMOTIVE
Tesla Cars Will Soon Have a “Robotaxi” Mode

Vlad Tchompalov

Tesla owners will soon have the option to turn their cars into “robotaxis” and earn extra money, thanks to the Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature. The company is currently testing the service with employees in Austin and San Francisco, having already completed over 1,500 trips and 15,000 miles. The initiative aims to refine FSD networks and related operations.

However, there's a significant catch: while the car can drive autonomously, a human must still be behind the wheel in case of emergencies. So, for now, the robotaxi concept isn't fully hands-off, as Tesla continues to perfect the technology.

SPACE
Curiosity Rover Captured in Action for the First Time

NASA

NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter recently captured an impressive image showing the Curiosity rover’s tracks on Mars, offering a unique view of its journey. The photo, snapped on February 28, highlights the rover’s movement from the Gediz Vallis channel to its next target. The 1,050-foot-long trail shows Curiosity’s progress over 11 drives, with the rover itself barely visible at the front.

Curiosity moves at a slow pace—just 0.1 mph—but the tracks are expected to last for months due to Mars' winds. This snapshot, taken by the HiRISE camera, is believed to be the first orbital image of the rover mid-drive and provides a fascinating look at its exploration of the Red Planet.
