Markets Plunge Worldwide for a Second Day Straight

Global stock markets plunged on Friday, marking a second consecutive day of losses due to the fallout from Donald Trump’s tariffs. US indexes were hit hardest, with the Dow Jones dropping 5.5%, the S&P 500 falling 5.97%, and the Nasdaq slipping 5.82%, officially entering bear market territory. European and Asian markets also saw significant declines.

Since Wednesday’s tariff announcement, analysts estimate $4.9 trillion has been wiped off the global market’s value, heightening concerns over the long-term impact of these trade policies.

Trump Extends TikTok Sale Deadline by 75 Days

TikTok has been granted an additional 75 days to secure a US buyer. President Trump signed an executive order to extend the deadline, citing “tremendous progress” on the deal and the need for more time to finalize approvals.

This extension follows the April 2024 law that requires TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app to a US buyer or face removal from US app stores and hosting platforms. The pressure continues to mount as the company works to meet the requirements and avoid being banned in the US.

Amazon's New AI Agent Can Shop Third-Party Websites

Amazon is testing a new AI-powered feature called “Buy for Me,” which allows the platform to make purchases for you from other websites. When searching for a brand, you’ll see a separate “Shop brand sites directly” section apart from Amazon’s usual results.

By clicking the “Buy for Me” button, you’re taken to a product page within the Amazon app. Using agentic AI, Amazon handles the checkout by securely providing your details. While you’ll receive a confirmation email from the brand, you can track the order in the new “Buy for Me Orders” tab within the Amazon app.

Meta Introduces Llama 4 With Two New AI Models

Meta has unveiled Llama 4, its new suite of AI models powering Meta AI across the web and in WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. The two models, Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick, are available for download from Meta or Hugging Face.

Scout is a smaller model designed for a single Nvidia H100 GPU, while Maverick offers performance on par with GPT-4. Meta claims both models outperform competitors like Google’s Gemini in key benchmarks, offering powerful AI capabilities with fewer active parameters.
